Reason to Breath (Breathing #1) by Rebecca Donovan + Review

“No one tried to get involved with me, and I kept to myself. This was the place where everything was supposed to be safe and easy. How could Evan Mathews unravel my constant universe in just one day?”

In the affluent town of Weslyn, Connecticut, where most people worry about what to be seen in and who to be seen with, Emma Thomas would rather not be seen at all.

She’s more concerned with feigning perfection while pulling down her sleeves to conceal the bruises – not wanting anyone to know how far from perfect her life truly is.

Without expecting it, she finds love.

It challenges her to recognize her own worth – but at the risk of revealing the terrible secret she’s desperate to hide.

Reason to Breathe is an electrifying page turner from start to finish, a unique tale of life-changing love, unspeakable cruelty, and one girl’s fragile grasp of hope.

Haven't heard the news about Reason To Breathe?!

Reason to Breathe is being made into a movie! But not just one- THREE!
The producers and I discussed securing funding for the Reason to Breathe Movie Series today.

We're going to need YOUR help with a portion of it. The investors will supply the rest, but they need a little convincing that you want this movie. That shouldn't be difficult, right?

I know it can be scary when one of your favorite books gets translated to film, but I can assure you this WILL BE the book come to life. Emma's story is too important to all of us... That is why I am one of the screenwriters, as well as a producer. I have a creative say in every step. And you will be able to witness each phase of its creation!

Soon I will be revealing our Kickstarter campaign with all of the production details. You will be a very important part of this entire process from the VERY beginning. A film experience like this has never been done before. It's going to change everything...

Optimism seeps from every pore of my body. I truly believe what’s supposed to happen… will. In that regard, I don’t know how to give up; it’s not part of my biological make-up.

I’m a passionate (and some would say overly enthusiastic) individual. I learn by doing (and have been burned more times than I’d like to admit). But I will always throw my entire self into whatever I do–fail or succeed.

I think this is evident when I write. I leave nothing behind, and spill it all out onto the pages. I give it all to my readers – love it or hate it.

The path I’m on is very often my own. Sometimes I veer off at the sight of something more interesting or captivating and get caught in the vines and thorns in order to experience the beauty and intrigue others often pass by. And I always meet the most interesting people along the way…

Not knowing that your last day may be Now, Tomorrow, a Week from now or maybe a Month from now. There are a million possibilities. Your life might end through: Drugs, alcohol, a job, car accident, murder, or even any forms of abuse. How would you spend it?

Emma survives one day at a time. Not fully understanding the lengths of her situation. All she knows is to be invisible, no dating, no parties, no friends but Sara, and to try to stay clear from Carol. Counting down the days till she leaves her past behind and start fresh.

Emma is brave and honorable but it blinds her. She may feel like she’s doing the right thing by keeping her secret but in all she’s hurting everyone around her including herself. Reason To Breathe was an amazing title for this book seeing as how she finds ways to keep going and finding people who care for her to help her keep moving on.

Sara is amazing she is a friend I wish to have seeing as how she genuinely cares for Emma and is willing to do the right thing but will also keep her friends secret and help Emma live a good life.

Evan… He’s dreamy and perfect. He really cares for Emma and loves how different she is from the girls who just throws themselves at him or any other guy to get attention and be popular. His character of how adventurous, carefree, nurturing, and funny is his made me fall in love with him. I'm glad he sought out Emma and kept getting under her skin.

This book is typical high school crowds with real life problems in the mix. I loved everything about this story and the life problems of how abuse can be. This isn’t a typical love story of how two teens find love but how life can be short and you should never let things hold you back because you deserve to be happy. But also that if you are being hurt to tell someone. I was definitely inspired by this book even though it was a tough story but after reading this series a second time I will continue to read more of Rebecca’s stories to come!
